Longer ago than I care to admit, this rocking chair was absorbed into the collection of furniture needing-help.

So seriously- I kinda wanted to stop right here!

This however is my mother in laws. Right?! I said the same thing.  Now, when I received it I *think it was black??  After that it became several different colors,.. nothing seemed right.  This is for my MOTHER IN LAW!  I ruined Silhouette stencil material, tore layers of paint off with what I could use for stenciling,... then came the Bling Bling challenge! **Hallelujah**
Using the Ocean Breeze I painted anywhere I felt I wanted to distress later...

Then everything got a good coat of Sea Storm.  I really just did one coat and then went back and touched up where needed.  ...and then it sat for a bit longer,... Analysis Paralysis?? Probably.

Alright-I can do this.  Just commit!  I’ve never used Embossing Plaster, or their Metallic Creams, so I wanted to use both!
Using an Ikat Stencil, I created a raised stencil effect with the "Praline Embossing Plaster"

Once the section was dry I continued on adding to it as needed.  When it dried completely I sanded everything down to create a more smooth effect.
Then came the metallic cream.  I decided to use Belt Buckle and Pocket Watch.  I offset the stencil to the lower left area of the design, and used the Belt Buckle to stipple a sort of shadow.  Once that was dry (Which was quite fast!) I used the stencil again-centered on the design, and I stippled the “Pocket Watch”.
The last thing I did was highlight areas of the chair by dragging the “Pocket Watch” cream over it.  Then using a wet sponge I wiped on the “Belt Buckle”.  This deepened the color, which I loved! ..Now to play some more.  I didn’t like how solid all the colors were. I began sanding back the stencil design and that was all it took.  Using 320 grit on my orbital and 220 by hand where needed, I began smoothing and distressing.

I have to say- I kind of love where I landed!  This was totally out of my comfort zone and stylistic sensibilities. And I still kept its colorful story..

Think she'll approve?? I hope so!!
Now what about you??
